Training institutions

Postgraduate training to become a medical specialist takes place at recognized postgraduate training centers. About 30 training centers for angiology are spread through Switzerland.

Postgraduate training centers are categorized into two categories based on an established set of criteria:

  • Category A (2 years): Angiology clinics or departments at university hospitals or university teaching or partner hospitals perform tertiary hospital care and provide primary or secondary care. There are >250 outpatient consultations per 100% residency annually, and >100 inpatient vascular patients are treated annually.
  • Category B (2 years): Angiology institutions that qualify appropriately according to the criteria framework. These clinics offer primary or secondary care. There are >250 outpatient consultations per 100% residency per year, and >50 inpatient vascular patients are treated per year.
  • In addition, medical ambulatories are recognized as training centers, the head of which must have completed a teaching physician course or at least two years of further training as a senior physician/chief physician/chief medical officer at a recognized training center.
